Welcome to Velindre's 160th Anniversary Patagonia trek 2025

Thank you for signing up to join us on 160th anniversary celebrations of Welsh pioneers who left Wales for Patagonia in 1865, establishing a Welsh colony which has flourished to this day, with the Welsh language been spoken in ever increasing numbers. On 24th November 1885 Craig Goch was climbed to the point from where “Cwm Hyfryd”, or “Beautiful Valley” was seen by our Welsh ancestors and members of the Rifleros expedition. 160 years to the exact day our Velindre trek will celebrate the unique culture, history and heritage of the Welsh connection with our friends in South America, walking with Rifleros over the same ground as our ancestors to Craig Goch with then ceremonial lowering of the Argentinian flag and replaced by the Welsh flag; both anthems will then be sung. Our trek then continues for another 5-days through stunning Patagonian countryside.

We have created this page for our Patagonia Overseas Participants to raise their vital funds and track their fundraising totals as they grow. If you are yet to confirm your place by paying a deposit, please contact the Velindre Fundraising team ahead of making a page.

Best of Luck with yourfundraising and THANK YOU for supporting Velindre through this exciting challenge!

Our Progress

"It is no exaggeration to say that I owe Velindre my life and fundraising for them is now even more special to me.

So in November 2025, I will be leading another trek celebrating the 160th anniversary of Welsh settlers in South America, by returning to Patagonia."
